war journal #327

so this is it kids, the last war journal i'll be entering for this project for a while. the last weekend of shooting was, in my humble opinion, the most fun. sat. ben, patch, troy, and i went to the school to shoot the opening credits and get some stills of charles for the cover art. then we all headed up to spooner to get ready for some sun. hillbilly fun. the day started late, around 11:30 and we ran at breakneck speed all day. mike, the one take king, sped through the action like it weren't no thang. on the way to our location the gods smiled upon and we found a dead fawn on the side of the road so we picked her up and took her with us. i spent the first half of the day asleep in the truck until matt left and got up to help out. after cruising through the cabin stuff we all packed up and headed out to get the final big fx shot of the production, the head shot in the car. the sun was setting so we had to really crank it up to get it all done. when the fat lady finally sang we had our footage and my car was covered in blood and brain matter, which leads into a much bigger story which i will go into later. that being said, the award winner for the last weekend of shooting is...anyone who i have missed in the other war journals. i know, it was a little anti-climactic, so sue me. that's all i got for now, check bakc later for a riveting story that starts with the st. paul pd thinking i'm dead and ends with a neighborhood fearing my home and some free press from the pioneer press in st. paul. till then, check ya

war journal #69

you may all have noticed that i have stopping calling these "punisher" war journals, i do this in fear of copyright laws so get over it. moving on. so here it is. we threw down the gauntlet and pushed through the five day shoot. from the 10th to the 14th our lives were nothing but filmmaking. we shot the rest of the vampires, monsters, haunted house, slasher, hillbilly, and bookends sequences. and if that wasn't enough we also fit in some pickups for the cult and nazi sequences. we had fifteen hours of shooting on thurs. followed by a lazy fri. we did shoot all night on fri. night and got up bright and early for the sat. morning shoot. needless to say we were all pretty exhausted by the end of the week. i want to thank all my directors who worked so hard to work within the schedules i set for them; even those that went grossly over time. ehem, mike, i'm looking in your direction. looking back on those five days there were two people who really earned the awards for the shoot. the first is matt, who threw himself through the air into a locker bank four times for us to get a shot and to myself, for making the big shot on sat. with the cops and the cherry picker come off. you may think this is a little self-serving but to you i say, fuck-off. i worked hard on this project and i think i have earned the right to say so.
one thing from the week worth noting though, is when our dp and gaffer almost got his ass-kicked by a very large man. i'd tell the whole story but i don't think troy would appreciate it, so if you knok troy and weren't there, ask him yourself. that's all for now kids, check ya.

August 6th was theday we were able to really bite into the monster sequence, no pun intended. steve produced a very cool monster suit complete with moving mandibles. it was a fairly easy weekend, even though we were deprived of our actress, amy. steve made sure he stuck to his shoot schedule with nazi precision. on a side note i did suffer some mild injuries on the set. i took a chunk out of my head and elbow while we were shooting in the basement and bruised the hell out of my knees after having my heart torn out. that beeing said, mike gets the award for that weekend for wearing the super hot monster suit all weekend and climbing into the ceiling for a "monster" of a shot. that time the pun was intended, the quotations are a dead give away. check ya.

this journal is for the weekend of july 30 and 31. seeing as i don't really remember that weekend very well i don't think we have an award winner. i do know that that was the weekend we started shooting monster stuff and we were able to fit in matt's haunted house sequence. since I can't think of someone who earned the award that weekend it will go to troy in recognition fo all his hard work throughout the project. check ya.

so i thought last sunday was long, holy shit was this sunday an eternity. saturday went by just fine including a bitchin' storm that rolled through. it was a long day but it went by without much hassle. sunday was a beast. we ended up starting slightly behind schedule and progressively got more and more behind. by the time all was said and done we wrapped two hours behind schedule and almost everyone was burned out. so after much deliberation i have decided that everyone worked so hard that it is almost impossible to pick one person above the rest to recieve the award. that being said, the award goes to our extra cosgrove, who ruined and eighty dollar pair of jeans just to play a dead body for us. although why he had eighty dollar jeans to begin with is still under debate. check ya.

this one is for the the weekend of the 9th. it was the cult shoot and we started the weekend great. saturday went by without a hitch. everything was on schedule and the footage looked great. then came sunday and the heavens rained blood. it was the single longest day i've had on set yet. we started two hours later than expected and i had sick actors. then came the whole chicken fiasco. i won't go into it but the result of the whole ordeal is that patch gets the award for the weekend. this is not to say that the dedication of simon is to be overlooked, once again he was a trooper. patch, however saved my ass too many times that day to not be given the award so kudos to patch. check ya

movie reviews

it looks like my cohorts have been busy bees posting reviews for the big summer flicks. my hope is to add a little spice by posting for some older, and maybe more obscure or arty, films. but i'm not making any promises; when it comes to keeping up with net posts, i'm a flake. check ya
