By now most of you have seen the trailer for this film on the web or tv.

I for one am excited for this film but the more I look at the trailers and featurettes I am struck with an almost odd sense of Deja Vu. Here's a brief synopsis:
The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America-somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived…and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town's richest citizens, Grant Grant (Michael Rooker), begins to act strangely. But when farmers' livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) and his team, aided by Grant's wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks), uncover the dark force laying siege to their town…and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth.
There we have a movie where something from space lands in a small town and infects Grant Grant (what an odd name) with an alien virus that creates giant space slugs. The slugs go around getting into people, nesting to reproduce and turning the townsfolk into zombies.
In 1986 however there was a film by the name of "Night of the Creeps" written and directed by Fred Dekker. If you don't know who that is go rent "Monster Squad" (sadly only available on vhs or laserdisc). Now, Night of the Creeps has this as a synopsis:
In 1959, an alien experiment crashes to earth and infects a fraternity member. They freeze the body, but in the modern day, two geeks pledging a fraternity accidentally thaw the corpse, which proceeds to infect the campus with parasites that transform their hosts into killer zombies.

To me this is comes off as almost too similar. Then again I enjoyed the "remake" of House of Wax which wasn't really related to the Vincent Price movie (which was also a remake). It was actually more likely a remake of a movie called Tourist Trap.
