Thriller: A Cruel Picture

I bought a copy of the unrated edition when I was down at Fangoria's Weekend of Horror in Chicago. This film is a true Grindhouse flick. It's a strange strange story about a little girl who is raped by an old man, who spits black gunk, in the park one day. Because of that she grows up mute. Apparently she also grew up pretty stupid as she misses the bus into town one day and decides to just jump in a suave rich looking guy's car. He obviously wines her, dines her, and gets her hooked on super strong heroin so she'll be another prostitute in his whore house. You know, it's that old wife's tale from the sea...

I enjoyed it for the most part. Very cool revenge flick with slow-mo fights, the build up of her skils, etc. And mixed with some really peculiar random hardcore sex shots. Oh the eyeball fx sequence that has got to be true to the legend! That was nuts!
At times the super extreme slow-mo goes from cool to boring to tedious. Synapse films, who released the newest version, offers it up in Red (unrated) or Yellow (rated) cuts. Which is a nice option for people who might just want to watch the film if it was edited for TV. I, personally, have no problem with it and would prefer to see a film cut as it was originally supposed to be shown.
I know Mike has seen it so he can chime in now. Anybody else enjoy Swedish revenge flicks? You might have seen it under one of it's other Grindhouse friendly titles; "Hooker's Revenge" or "They Call Her One Eye".

Once was enough for me.

Once was enough for me. Granted the slow mo stuff is a huge inspiration for me, this film was utterly degrading and overall, kinda pissed me off. The title, They Call Her One Eye is frikin sweet, her revenge sequences are smokin, the poster is wicked, but over all, a very unnecessary film in all. Maybe a classic, yet I still prefer Walking Tall with Joe Don Baker or the legendary Bo Svenson for a revenge flick. Not hardcore enough? Don't care. Hicks duking it out and moonshiners are more interesting than rape and torture.

By the way, what is the

By the way, what is the legend behind the eyeball sequence?

It was filmed using a real

It was filmed using a real corpse. Just watching how the scene plays out and the almost medical film nature of the shot with that effect has me believing its real. I watched it twice just picking out details, great transfer by synapse, and you can see the pores, eyelashes, the skin tone, individual facial hairs, and multiple layers of skin in the eyeball. If it was a fake then it rivals the best of KNB. And there are parts in the film when she has "wound" fx on her face that look amateur at best.

I watched a trailer for this

I watched a trailer for this movie not too long ago on the grindhouse trailer epic "42nd street forever vol.1" It looked pretty good. Did the DVD include any good features on it at all? I would like to see it just for the sake of it.

If you want to see the full

If you want to see the full original cut get the Red box version. Otherwise you can nab the Yellow box which I believe chops out the hardcore sex scenes and a few extra pieces. There are some decent extras in the disc like how they lost a full fight sequence due to a lab mistake. And I think there is a retrospective on the disc as well. Haven't really looked at it much since I watched it twice.

Sounds like my kind of film.

Sounds like my kind of film. I'll have to look it up at some point...You know...when movies aren't a chore anymore...LOL!
