AKA Zero Woman adventure films.
Just watched the first of the series;

Criminal Woman: Killing Melody

This flick goes from women in prison to harsh revenge picture mixed with all out yakuza mob war. Lots of lady flesh, blood, gun shots and tanto stabbings. This film doesn't pull any punches. From how the main girl, Maki, has to build a revenge bank roll after her release from prison. One word: prostitution. To her straight up painful torture sequence. It involves a chainsaw, a lit cigarette and her bare chest. This film was surprisingly entertaining. The pacing is really smooth and the flashbacks for all the female gang members were all handled great.
Things that cut this film down are some inferior Japanese camera lenses. A lot of wide shots are marred by soft focus and splotchiness. Like they rubbed soap over parts of the lens before filming. Its a really shame but at least they still got a couple of really great juice shots in there.
The story also suffers from a slight splotchiness. Now, I understand how honor and family is important in Japan but Maki's reason for revenge is very very thin. It just doesn't hit me as a real valid reason to go ape shit and destroy two yakuza gangs.

Even with that solid 8 out of 10 for you GrindHouse fans. Grab this and Switchblade Sisters for a night of tough as nails chicks revenge flicks.

Next up is "School of the Holy Beast" and, I kid you not this is the whole title, "Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom". Not sure if Holy Beast is part of the same series but its got the same Director, Norifumi Suzuki. I'll pop the quicky reviews in here as after those two beauties I have the rest of the series in line on netflix.

School of the Holy Beast

is not part of the Pinky Violence collection and was released in the states by a different company.

Having never seen a nun-sploitation film I'm told this is the cream of the crop. It's loaded to the brim with toplessness, bottomless, nude tortures of all sorts, urination, rape, lesbian sex scenes, masturbation, red paint blood and self mutilation scenes. A total family fun film.
The story is maybe 20 minutes in total of Maya joining the nunnery (that word is a zillion times funnier than convent) to find out why her mother Michiko, christian name Mary, abandoned her as a baby. Turns out mother Mary became mysteriously pregnant, wait it gets better, with Maya while living at the nunnery (haha) and naturally was beaten and tortured. It takes Maya 45 minutes of the film to find out her mother was hung in the church on Christmas but Maya was still born. Oh the intrigue. About 30 more minutes of debauchery until Maya finds out her mom was killed by the current abbess, or Mother Superior, of the convent and the resident Priest. Giving away to much? Guess it wouldn't help to mention the Priest gives a new nun, who's family is very poor, money but since she already stole some from the abbess she has to pay penitence. Turns out Father Slick Rick, as I like to call him, has been using the nunnery (still funny) as his personal sex stables for 18 years. What can he do though? Dude obviously just loves them virgins.
Anyway, the whole story wraps up in normal fashion. The evil doers are punished and/or killed. Oh yeah, and to add to the big list of craziness up top there is incest mixed in as well. Swirl that inside your brain for a minute and you can probably figure out how this, oddly, boring film ends.

I give it about, let's say, 5 out of 10. Unless you've got some perverse fetish for nuns this film really doesn't have much going for it. With that said I'm sure Lance would give it a higher score since he did watch it as well.

Terrifying Girls' High

Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroom

Take all the fun stuff I stated for School of the Holy Beast and apply it to a high school for troubled girls. Oh and add in genital mutilation with light bulbs and live wires.

IMDB synopsis:
Three new students at a super-strict girl's school must face off with a repressive school administration, the sadistic, murderous student discipline brigade and corrupt politicians over the murder/suicide of one of their friends. They're approached by a blackmailer (Tsunehiko Watase) who promises to help them exact vengeance in exchange for setting up a corrupt local politician, and aided by a independent Yakuza biker chick (Reiko Ike).

This flick had almost the exact same girls from Criminal Woman: Killing Melody but in different rolls. Again full of nudity and crazy sex revenge scenes. This one however was actually pretty boring and the plot was paper thin at best. Not really one I'd recommend compared to the last two. There is some really cool sound design and one just flat out great shot inside a bar. But other than that it's a complete waste really. Unless you absolutely need to see a gang rape by a bunch of high school girls on their crusty old principle. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the plot...

Going out the door for 3 out of 10. Hopefully the next one Sukeban gerira (AKA Girl Boss Guerilla) also full of the same actresses, is better.

Miko Sugimoto is the leader of the Red Helmet Gang, a biker girl gang from Shinjuku who wind up in Kyoto and make a bid to take over the local girl gangs there. Successful for a short time in ruling the streets it isn't long before Miko and her crew run afoul of the local Yakuza, and are forced to turn to Reiko Ike, a ronin Yakuza girl, and sister to one of the top Yakuza in Kyoto, for help, leading to a murderous showdown at a small coastal resort.

Biker chick revenge flick starring all the same chicks from the previous pinky violence films. These chicks must have just loved getting together, fighting, drinking and wrassling naked. The plot was a little on the rambling side and the ending was kind of strange but all together not a bad film. Doesn't really compete with Chrome and Hot Leather but as part of the PV collection its up there. Still not as great as Criminal Woman: Killing Melody but I was suprised at how little nudity and torture this one had. I would say it was also the absolute dirt cheapest to make. None of the locations were sets and all of the costumes were pretty much whatever the actors had on. Or so it seemed.

Killing Melody is still the cream of the crop for this group of films but Girl Boss Guerilla (Who the hell translated this title??) was decent.

Double Review Zubeko bancho:

Double Review

Zubeko bancho: zange no neuchi mo nai (AKA Delinquent Girl Boss: Worthless to Confess)

IMDB: Reiko Oshida stars as a young wannabe gangster tough girl, just released from reform school. She tracks down one of her classmates fathers, who runs an auto repair shop that the local Yakuza are trying to force out of business and take over, and starts working for him. At the same time a recently released from prison, and now ill Yakuza is trying to make a new life for himself and his girl, a friend of Reiko's, who also just graduated from reform school. A fateful car crash brings the two on a collision course with each other and the brutal Yakuza clan, which can only end bloody vengeance.

I'll burn through this one pretty quick. Decent story with a few interwoven character arches. This one was probably the most subdued and standard of all the Pinky Violence movies. Well put together and a great ending with all the girls dressed in matching outfits and swords taking down the yakuza.

Furyo anego den: Inoshika Ocho (AKA Sex & Fury)

IMDB: Reiko Ike stars as Ocho, a gambler and pickpocket in Meiji Era Tokyo. After sheltering a fleeing anarchist, Ocho runs into the three gangsters responsible for her father's murder, and runs afoul of various yakuza who want her dead. A European spy, played by Christina Lindberg, arrives on the scene and complicates matters.

Naturally the IMDB plot summary doesn't mention that this film is super crazy. Set in 1905 this whole film is a revenge piece of sorts. Reiko Ike is out to find her father's killers who just so happen to have tattoos that tell her which ones to kill.
This film has EVERYTHING the last four films I've viewed had and then some. Nuns, torture, crazy hidden tattoos, lesbian scenes and the main villain gets to bed every chick in the film. With all that stuffing its very convoluted and not as entertaining as some of the other films. Also, its a period piece set in 1905 but the gambling scene has plastic poker chips! What the hell. Did the prop master just get lazy or something? There is a few other moments of wrong time period props. Of course if you've seen Thriller, A Cruel Picture you know Christina Lindberg doesn't mind getting freaky on camera. And that of course leads to one of the stranger moments in the film. Not for the content. Just the way it comes about and how oddly long it is. IF you wanted a taste of everything these films have to offer this is the perfect jump off point.
